Camp Baird

On March 19, 1954 Theodore Victor Baird’s executrix, Martha J. Baird petitioned the court for an order settling the title and transferring ownership to the Colville Kiwanis, for what we now know as Camp Baird.  The original deeds were dated May 8, 1944 (200 feet of lot 4 and 330 feet of lot 5), and November 1, 1950 (Lots 21 and 22 and were deeded to Mr. Baird, as a Trustee for Boy Scout Troup #104.

According to the court order, Mr. Baird was primarily responsible for acquiring and developing the camping facility.  Funds were raised primarily by the people of Colville for the development and construction of the cabin, and other facilities.  Mr. Baird did not have or claim any personal ownership in the real estate comprising Camp Baird.

Control and management of Camp Baird was conveyed by court order to the Colville Kiwanis for the use and benefit only of the Boy Scout, Girl Scout, and Campfire girls of Colville equally and for no other purposes, except that Scouts from other places might use the facility by invitation.

Mr. Baird was a Kiwanian, trustee, and Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #104 for approximately 20 years prior to his death.  It was the intention of Mr. Baird that the camp should always be used for the benefit of Troop #104 and such other troops of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, as they might invite to use the facility.
